Ken Follett has never hosted a primetime documentary series – until now. The worldwide bestselling author introduces us to the Dark Ages and the characters that inspired his novels The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End.

In this two-part documentary series – produced by TANDEM COMMUNICATIONS and Story House Productions (Galileo Mystery), Follett gives us a glimpse into the world of his imagination and the extraordinary characters who have inspired him. Follett will take viewers into one of the darkest chapters of European history – The Black Death and the struggles of women of the Middle Ages.

Writing and directing the documentary is Jann Turner, an accomplished veteran of both television and film. In addition to writing and directing such television dramas as Hard Copy, Zero Tolerance and Mzansi, Turner's feature films include White Wedding, chosen as the South African official entry for the 2010 Oscars and the critically-acclaimed Paradise Stop. She also made The Art of Suspense: A History of the Thriller, based on one of Ken Follett's lecture tours.

"I am so excited to be working with Tandem and Storyhouse on bringing this project to the screen," says Jann Turner. "This promises to be an exciting journey with Ken Follett taking the audience into the history behind his amazing characters and the intricate plots of his medieval stories."

"The Black Death was the greatest crisis in the history of the human race thus far, killing at least a third of the population of Europe," says Ken Follett. "It changed the way people thought about medicine, science and religion because the church was unable to cure the plague."
