The Pillars of the Earth is a sweeping epic of good and evil, treachery and intrigue, violence and beauty. This sensuous, spirited and passionate story is set against a backdrop of war, religious strife and power struggles which tears lives and families apart. In that time, there rises a magnificent Cathedral in Kingsbridge.
The Pillars of the Earth, based on Ken Follett's world wide bestseller, is currently in production in Hungary and Austria.
Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominated TANDEM COMMUNICATIONS along with its multi award-winning Canadian co-producer, Muse Entertainment, and in association with Ridley Scott and Tony Scott’s Scott Free Films, will bring the first footage ever seen to the Mipcom television market in Cannes, France (October 5 – 9, 2009).
The US$ 40 million budget, 8-hour limited series, based on Ken Follett’s masterpiece of the same name, under the direction of Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (Heroes, Saving Grace, Steven Spielberg’s Into the West) and starring Golden Globe® Award winner Ian McShane (HBO’s series Deadwood, Sexy Beast), two-time Golden Globe® Award winner Donald Sutherland (ABC’s series Dirty Sexy Money, Human Trafficking), Bafta® Award-nominated Rufus Sewell (CBS’s series The Eleventh Hour, HBO’s Emmy® winning mini John Adams), multi award-nominee Matthew Macfadyen (Ridley Scott’s new feature film Nottingham, Frost and Nixon), Eddie Redmayne (The Other Boleyn Girl, Elizabeth – the Golden Age), multi award-nominated Hayley Atwell (The Duchess, Brideshead Revisited), award-winning actress Natalia Woerner (Storm Tide, Father’s Day, Miss Texas), Sarah Parish (BBC’s series Mistresses, The Wedding Date with Debra Messing) and Bafta®Scotland award-winner Tony Curran (The Good German, Miami Vice), has been shooting on location in Budapest, Hungary since June and will move to Vienna, Austria in October.

At the helm for TANDEM is Executive Producer Rola Bauer. “We couldn’t be happier with the production phase of this extraordinary story. With gifted and talented people both in front of and behind the camera, The Pillars of the Earth is rich with great writing by John Pielmeier, an outstanding cast who are delivering stellar performances, a hard-working international crew, shooting in Hungary and Austria and a Director, Sergio Mimica-Gezzan who is making it all come to life as a vibrant, dynamic and emotional story.”

On his recent visit to set, world renowned author Ken Follett said: “Well, this is astonishing because this is the Kingsbridge fleece fair. And you know I imagined it and wrote it, but I guess I never thought I’d see it. And this is really how it would have been. Everything is right. You know, I look around at… all the details… the scaffolding that is all around us… and the ladders… and the barrows that they used to transport mortar… everything is exact. I took a lot of trouble getting all those details exact in my book. Because I felt that people would want to know that, that the way I have described medieval building was correct. And somebody else has done exactly the same here. Because everything is right.” Ken Follett
Mr. Follett agreed to make a cameo appearance. We will challange future viewing audiences worldwide to find him somewhere within the eight hours of the series.

TANDEM is co-producing and distributing worldwide, excluding the Lifetime (U.S.) window. The two event movies will be produced by Emmy® Award winner Stanley M. Brooks (Broken Trail, The Capture of The Green River Killer, Prayers for Bobby).
At Risk and The Front introduce a new lead character, investigative officer “Winston Garano”. Garano is described as extremely intelligent, headstrong, absolutely incorruptible and drop-dead gorgeous. From the get-go, he will have an ongoing challenge working with his extremely ambitious supervisor, state attorney Monique Lamont. Together they form a powerful team whose job it is to open and solve cold cases – but their cold cases turn suddenly too hot to handle.
Since publishing her first novel in 1991, Cornwell has written 27 international bestselling novels, most of which have appeared on the New York Times bestseller lists for both hard cover and paperback as well as on prominent international bestseller lists. Her books have been published in 33 countries and in 32 languages, many have Cornwell accredited with being the creator of the forensic crime/thriller genre – one of television’s most popular genres worldwide.
